5-year-old girl’s clothes spark controversy

A 5-month-old baby was born with the condition of anencephaly because her parents weren’t wearing the appropriate clothes to cover their bodies, a local newspaper reported.

The girl, whose name is being withheld to protect her identity, was born at a hospital in the town of Tumbes, located in the state of Sinaloa, on July 13, local media reported on Friday.

The girl was born in a birthing center and was brought to a hospital for examination because she couldn’t breathe or feed her stomach, the newspaper reported, citing an official from the town.

The hospital said that a doctor told the family that the girl was anencephalic, meaning she could not walk.

The infant was rushed to a pediatric clinic where she underwent tests, the paper reported.

The mother, who was in a wheelchair, refused to give birth because she didn’t want to lose her baby, the report said.
